Correcting a marriage certificate
Popular Pages

To correct information on a marriage certificate, you will need to return all Registry-issued standard marriage certificates in your possession, with a signed cover letter stating what information needs to be corrected, and what the correct information should be.

You will also need to provide evidence of the correct details. The Registry will not correct a standard marriage certificate without this evidence. Please contact the Registry for advice and assistance in providing evidence for a correction.

The Registry generally does not charge a fee to correct a standard marriage certificate. However, if you have not already obtained a standard marriage certificate you will need to lodge a standard marriage certificate application form and fee for the corrected certificate.

Corrections to standard marriage certificates appear in the left-hand margin. Please note the Registry does not correct the keepsake certificate given to you by your celebrant on your wedding day.
