A standard marriage certificate is a legally recognised document. This document is often required for official purposes such as updating your driver licence or passport to your married name.
The Registry can only issue a marriage certificate once the marriage is registered.
If you require a certificate for a marriage which occurred outside Victoria, you will need to
contact the Registry office of the state, territory or country where that marriage occurred.
Turnaround times may vary depending on how you submit your application.
You can find more information about marriage certificates in the
Marriages FAQs.
The Registry recommends you keep all Registry-issued documents secure.
